Human hair weave
100% Human hair for weaving, weave bonding. Popular deep wave extension for human hair. |
Fake hair is used to give many different people different kinds of hairstyles without the commitment that having real hair in that style would require. It can be used to give the appearance of different colors, different types or longer hair. It is popular among African Americans, and people involved in the Cyber and goth subcultures
Methods of attachment
Hair Extensions that are popular and used mainstream, are not made of "fake" or "synthetic" hair. In one method, the hair is attached in a strand by strand method that lasts up to 6 months. A tiny rice grain attachment is placed 1/4" away from the scalp and human hair blended to match a clients color is added. A weave is popular in the African American community and that is when hair is stitched against the scalp, the antiquated method is painful and the tension can pull out the clients own hair. Some people are switching to a strand by strand technique since it is better for the hair and looks natural. Human Hair, unlike synthetic Hair can be curled with heat, and washed as often as needed. Method of attachment can vary from a Keratin wax adhesive, which can be removed with an acetone based remover or a Hair Locking system which is a copper tube clamped around the hair. A popular but incorrect misconception is that African Americans are the only ethnicity to use hair extensions. Fake Hair is popular not only amongst African Americans, but other ethnicities as well. Many celebrities of all ethnicties use hair extensions to give the appearance of length, thickness, and fullness.
Types of fake hair
Monofibre Extensions. Simon Forbes invented Monofibre hair extensions in 1981. Primarily for use in his London Salon Antenna. Monofibre manufacturing company Dome was established in 1986 and quickly became the worlds number one hair extension company. Monofibre extensions were invented for customers who wanted to change their looks dramatically. The hairdresser offers a highly skilled service, which results in a transformed look. This is why Monofibre extensions should be regarded as an Exclusive salon service. The service in more detail: Short to long; can be used to take hair from short to mid length or mid to long. It can also be used to cover in between when clients are growing Colour; can be used to create an infinite array, or an exact match for the client's own hair. Volume; Adds real volume, ideal for those with long hair where the ends are much finer. Will fill thin areas of the head for example crowns and fringes. Avant-Garde; Dreadlocks, braids, twists. Man-made hair is easier to look after then human hair.
The disadvantages of human hair are; It needs to be removed using solvents such as Acetone, which damages the customer's hair and scalp. The stylist wears gloves to protect his/her hands, what protects the client? Second hand human hair comes mainly from Asia and Eastern Europe. Donors can include Mental patients, the homeless, Women forced to sell their hair and even corpses! The process of getting the hair ready for sale is often long and complicated; the hair needs to be bleached to get to it to white ready to be dyed. The chemical process breaks down the hair. The hair is then soaked in silicon to give it a natural looking shine. Unfortunately subsequent washing removes the silicon and the hair looses its lustre. This leaves the hair looking like it really is; something that was removed from another person months before
Monofibre extensions suffer from none of these disadvantages. They are totally undetectable, and because of the full range of colours, an exact match can be made to the client's natural hair. It is far more manageable then the human hair and easier for the client to look after.
Hair weave
Hair weave is loose hair that is attached to a sewn weft track. this can be human or synthetic hair of any texture. the weft can be stitched into hair in cornrows or glued in with cold bonding glue such as pro-styles latex glue (which dissolves with oil based removers) or 'liquid gold' glue (which dissolves with acetone based removers).
bulk hair
this refers to hair which is not attached to a weft track. this can be human or synthetic, however synthetic will tend to be in double lengths, with a fold at the top. synthetic hair is not only available in 'loose' varieties but in many variations such as braids, microbraids and dreads. the most popular brand of manufactured dread being the 'elysee star' brand; these are widely regarded to be much lower quality than handmade dreads. handmade dreads are created from backcombed and heat/steam sealed 'kk jumbo braid' and are installed in the same way, most commonly known as the 'double ended dread method' where one side of the dread is braided into the hair whilst leaving the other loose; although many other methods have been devised for different kinds of dreads.
